The Los Angeles Police Department stated in a statement that A$AP Rocky was arrested at the Los Angeles airport on Wednesday in connection with a November shooting.
Officers stopped the Grammy-nominated rapper at the Los Angeles International Airport before detaining him for “assault with a deadly weapon.” He was returning from a trip to Barbados with singer Rihanna, his girlfriend who is pregnant with the couple’s first child.
The rapper was later released from detention on Wednesday after paying $550,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to a tweet from the LAPD on Wednesday, Rocky, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, was a part of an ongoing investigation into a Nov. 6 incident in which an argument escalated and “resulted in the suspect firing a handgun at the victim.” According to authorities, the victim was treated for minor injuries and got medical attention. Rocky and two other guys allegedly fled the area on foot, according to police.
“Detectives worked carefully to verify and corroborate the reported information, which assisted in the identification of the suspect(s) involved,” the statement stated.
The 33-year-old rapper has previously been in legal issues after being imprisoned in Sweden following a street brawl in 2019.
During the trial, Mayers claimed self-defense, stating that two individuals were harassing his entourage. Mayers told the Stockholm District Court that one of the men got into a fight with his security after he begged them to leave his group alone.
I’m ‘disappointed,’ says A$AP Mob. Rocky finally speaks up after a guilty verdict in a Swedish assault case.
Mayers was found guilty of assault by a jury, and the judge issued “conditional sentences,” suggesting that the rapper might face jail time if he commits another similar offence in Sweden, as well as a $1,307 fine (12,500 kronor).
Rocky has been in the spotlight as he prepares to become a father with Rihanna. Despite being afraid to move him out of the “friend zone,” Rihanna revealed her connection with the “Praise The Lord” rapper in Vogue’s May cover story.

Rihanna poses for Vogue with a stylish baby bulge and discusses her love with A$AP Rocky.
“It took a bit for me to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me, because we both know how much trouble we can get ourselves into,” Rihanna told the magazine, adding that the two became “family” after spending a lot of time together in quarantine.
“I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side,” she said.
